There is a lot of talk about our addiction to caffeine, alcohol, and drugs.
Recent research shows that there is evidence to support our growing addiction to sugar in our diet.
Scientists have been able to induce in mice, by modifying the amount of sugar in their diet, similar behaviour to true drug addiction.
French Scientists have shown that Rats choose sugar over cocaine – even when they were addicted to cocaine!!
Studies in Humans are difficult to conduct, but some human brain scans have shown that while drinking sugary milkshakes the same ‘reward centre is triggered.
The more we consume, the more our reward receptors get numbed to it – so we look for even more to re-create that ‘high’.
